I believe counselling needs to be a place where you can let your guard down; a sanctuary where you can speak about anything that you want without fear of judgement, ridicule, criticism, embarrassment or gossip. It needs to be a place where you can find a holding space and gentle guidance to sort through conflicting thoughts, and difficult feeling and memories. I want to create a place where you feel accepted and acceptable and with this, the courage to stretch to be more of who you are meant to be.
My role will be to help you access and bring forward your existing strengths as you tackle the challenges you face. Using a client-centered experiential approach, I will guide you in discussions and activities intended to help you understand and ‘rewire’ stuck thoughts, feelings, behaviours, memories and sensations.
Drawing from my six years of university education in psychology/counselling and from my various professional experiences working with people struggling to cope, I will look to understand what is really happening for you and to find out how we can best work for positive change.
I have specialized training in trauma modalities including EMDR and OEI which are unique, noninvasive methods of assisting individuals to move beyond feeling stuck in the grasp of shadows of the past; reducing intrusion upon their life today. I also have training in helping people effectively address their relationship struggles using AEDP and EFT (or Emotionally Focussed Therapy).
On my own time, I enjoy spending time in the outdoors with my husband of over 28 years and our three young adult children.
